ODEX? TrueCore Measurement System
Inline measurement of conductor concentricity and insulated wire diameter and ovality during extrusion
Synchronized laser and magnetic sensing delivers true, real-time values of the cross-section, with ?m precision
Why ODEX??
The 蘑菇视频 ODEX? is a specialized inline measurement system for wire insulation extrusion, delivering true measurement of conductor concentricity, eccentricity, outer diameter, and ovality. By combining laser scanning and magnetic field sensing in one compact head, ODEX? provides synchronized measurement of conductor position and insulation diameter? – ensuring ?m?level accuracy in real time.
Unlike conventional systems that rely on derived values from separate measurement points, ODEX? captures all parameters simultaneously at a measurement rate greater than 1 ?s. This eliminates errors caused by wire vibration or product twist, enabling precise measurement of the conductor concentricity. With real-time measurement, ODEX? allows the operator to precisely centre the conductor within the insulation or detect eccentricity issues on extrusion lines with self-centring crossheads to improve or maintain product quality, and increase overall extrusion efficiency.
- True concentricity/eccentricity measurement: Synchronized optical and magnetic sensing at high rates deliver accurate and repeatable measurements in real time – not calculated estimates.
- Stable, error-free results: Measurement rate of greater than 1 ?s eliminates influence from vibration, product movement, or twist during extrusion.
- Linearized optics with synchronized dual axis laser scanning technology: Delivers accurate and highly repeatable diameter, ovality and product position measurement.
- Measures precise location of the conductor: Achieved through combining precision magnetic sensors with high signal to noise amplification and synchronized measurement rates.
- Closed-loop signal control for measurement accuracy: The ODEX? controls the inductor to induce a stable and controlled current into the wire, continuously monitoring the signal to ensure accurate and repeatable magnetic sensor measurements.

Ideal for CAT type data and LAN cable production with solid or foamed insulations, where precise concentricity of the conductor is critical for signal quality, impedance, and reduced crosstalk.
Coaxial & RF Cable Manufacturing:
Enables accurate concentricity monitoring of conductors in RF, CATV and micro coax cables, keeping impedance in check.
Automotive, Aerospace & Specialty Cables:
Suitable for high-performance cables used in automotive wiring, e-mobility, aerospace, and other specialized applications where conductor concentricity directly impacts product quality.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between ODEX? and ODAC??
ODAC? measures outer diameter and ovality by laser scanning alone. ODEX? additionally measures the conductor’s position within the insulation using magnetic field sensing – all synchronized at a measurement rate of greater than 1 ?s. Use ODAC? for diameter control; use ODEX? wherever conductor concentricity is a critical parameter.
Can ODEX? be used to perform FFT analysis or SRL prediction?
Yes, the ODEX? provides a dedicated output for the diameter measurements to be transmitted directly to a USYS? IPC type processor at the high rates needed to perform FFT analysis and prediction on Structural Return Loss (SRL).
Does the ODEX? require a servo mechanism to centre the wire?
No. The outstanding linearity of the measuring system allows stationary mounting in most applications – no mechanical tracking or servo centering required. This simplifies installation and reduces ongoing maintenance.
What is the inductor, and how far can it be from the measuring head?
The inductor induces a high-frequency current into the conductor, generating the magnetic field for the sensors to measure the position of the conductor. It connects to the ODEX? by cable and can be positioned upstream or downstream from the ODEX? – 1 to 10 m away from the ODEX?.
Does the ODEX? work on ferrous and non-ferrous conductors?
Yes. The magnetic measurement principle works on both ferrous (steel) and non-ferrous (copper, aluminium) conductors. No settings change is required when switching conductor materials.
How does the ODEX? connect to our line control system?
Available host interfaces include RS-232/422/485, EtherNet TCP/IP, as well as fieldbus interfaces – PROFINET, PROFIBUS DP, and EtherNet/IP. With these configurations, the system provides an integrated webserver, enabling configuration and monitoring via any web browser without additional software. The system integrates directly with 蘑菇视频 USYS? processors for recipe management, monitoring, closed loop control, SPC/SQC data acquisition, FFT and SRL prediction, and combined monitoring with ODAC?, CAPAC?, and other sensors.
How do you verify the calibration of the ODEX??
The calibration of the ODEX? can be verified by placing a pin with a known diameter into the measuring field of the ODEX? sensor. One has to ensure the precision of the pin exceeds the accuracy of the ODEX? diameter measurement. 蘑菇视频 provides kits with pins and holders to support the pin. The pins can be certified and made traceable to local and national standards. Calibration of the magnetic sensor is done by stringing up a bare conductor in the measuring perform a zero referencing.
What routine maintenance does the ODEX? require?
Maintenance is minimal – limited to regular window cleaning when the contamination LED blinks, using a soft cloth or isopropyl alcohol. No servo mechanisms or wearing parts.
Does the ODEX? support EtherNet/IP and PROFINET?
For EtherNet/IP, ODEX?provides for an easy integration with Allen-Bradley PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers). The supplied Rockwell Automation licensed EDS AOP enables convenient integration with CompactLogix, MicroLogix and ControlLogix families of PLCs. ODEX? provides the PROFINET fieldbus connection for easy integration with Siemens SIMATIC family of PLCs. ODEX? continues to fully support PROFIBUS DP.
